人口増加が鈍くなっているとのこと

エコノミストの新しい記事。世界の人口増加のペースが鈍ってきているとのこと。これまでは2100年を超えた時点で110億になり、それがピークだろうと言われてきた。出生率の減少などを考えると、ピークはそれよりもかなり早く、2060年代でおよそ90億くらいだろうとのこと。2100年には世界の人口は減少をはじめているとのこと。韓国、スペイン、それから中国などの人口も、2100年には、現在よりも25%から50％の現象を見せているとのこと。

新国立劇場で『イヌビトー犬人』の公演！

Covid-19の流行と共鳴した芸術の世界に触れるチャンスがいくつかあり、その一つとして、演劇の新作である『イヌビト』が公演される。主題は、医学史研究者としては狂犬病である（笑）　専門ではないけれども、狂犬病という主題は歴史も古く、人間と犬の接触を雄弁に語る疾病で、本もたくさん出版されている。今回の公演は新国立劇場の中劇場で8月から。これから劇場を再開していくThe Atre がキャンペーンをしていた。もともと親子用のダンスとのことで、久しぶりに家族と一緒に行って、終わったらみんなで鮨でも食べようかな。

ミュンヘンにおけるcovid-19 の調査

もうひとつ、今度は New Yorker の記事から。2020年の3月からミュンヘンで行われている検査で、covid-19 の感染がどのように広がるかというリアルタイムの調査である。上海からビジネスの関連でミュンヘンにフライトした人物から広まったとのこと。それから covid-19 がどのように広がるかという調査に、ミュンヘン市民が非常に熱心に参加してくれたとのこと。調査にかかるお金は1億円を少し超すくらい。とても順調に進んでいるとのこと。ドイツに死者が少ないことの理由の一つに、遺伝が強く関与しているのではないかとのこと。これは、多くの理系の学者たち、そして医学史のような人文社会系と理系の境界の学者たちも興味を持っている問題である。よく分からない問題だが、日本という地域にはさまざまな遺伝子が共存していて、これで疾病の分析をきれいに説明できる論文を読みたいですね。

記事の中でメルケルの落ち着いた態度が称賛されている部分で、「彼女は量子化学を勉強したから」と書いてあった。メルケルには当てはまるかもしれないが、世界のどこにでも当てはまるわけではない。政治学の実行者側と優れた理系の力はどのように両立するのだろうか。

スラブとスロヴァキアとスロヴェニア

今日の Bing の風景・観光写真はスロヴェニアの山岳の自然公園写真。とても美しいので説明を読んだ。そこで「イタリアとスロヴェニアの国境」という言い方をしていて、いつものことだが、全く分からなくなった。私は「スロヴェニア」というと「スロヴァキア」とあまり区別がついていないし、どちらも「スラブ」なのだろうかという根本的な疑問が出てしまう。イタリアが「スラブ」の国と接触しているということもよく分からない。

 

Wikipedia などを少し調べた分かったこと。一番の衝撃は「スラブ」が二つに分かれていることである。世界地図を載せておいて、赤いスクエアで強調した場面が、私が知らなかったスラブの部分である。これは「南スラヴ」South Slavs と呼ばれている。だから「スロヴェニア」というのか！そして、昔は「チェコスロバキア」であった国を二分してできた「スロヴァキア」は、「西スラヴ」West Slavs と呼ばれている。ロシアなどは「東スラヴ」である。Kindle でよさそうな本を無料で提供していたので、それをダウンロードしておいた。
