カテーテルと去勢

日本語のカテーテルという言葉がある。医学で体内と体外の液体をやりとりする意味である。第二音節にアクセントがある。たぶんオランダ語か、ドイツ語の der Katheter が起源になったのだろう。医学SMの排泄シーンでも出てきた記憶がある。英語だとcatheter となり、第一音節にアクセントがある。

その単語と混ざってしまうのが castrate である。意味は去勢。ドイツ語だと die Kastrationを引くことができた。もしかしたらフランス語が起源なのかもしれない。 英語だと第二音節にアクセントがある。キャストレーションと読むことが多いのではないかと思う。
