イギリスの雑誌 Prospect にジョアナ・バーク先生の外科医についての二冊の書物の書評。とても面白いのでまず読んでみるといい。心臓と脳という二つの重要な臓器、外科手術の歴史的に複雑なアイデンティティ、現代における飛躍的な進歩と成功、そしてその裏にある人体をモノとして操作する技術と、そこで作り出される独特の人格。 近年の一般的な態度では「外科はサイコパスだ」と言われているし、外科医たちは自分たちで調査をした論文の副題に「外科はサイコパスか？そしてそれは悪いことか？」と書いているという。
