OEDの今日の英単語から難易度が高い語句の連発。その二つのうち、新しいものは、まだ少しは分かる。語句は sithee. 基本的には自動詞で、I'll see thee の I'll を省略して see thee とし、それをもう一度短くして sithee としたものである。
一昨日のものはもっと難しい。語句としては soft Mick である。ランカスターで発生した言い回しらしいが、more A than soft Mick あるいは as A as soft Mick という形で、程度が大きいことを示すとのこと。ここまでは分かる。しかし例文をじっと見て、分からないほうが多い。もともと分からない形でつける語句なのかな。the cheek of Soft Mick なんて、そうではないだろうか。
